Mick Cocks, the founding member and guitar player of Rose Tattoo and Doomfoxx lost his battle with liver cancer earlier today. He is the forth Rose Tattoo member (after Pete Wells, Lobby Loyde and Ian Rilen) to die of cancer in the last four years.

Iron Maiden returns to Wacken!

This announcement is the perfect Christmas gift for Metalheads and Wacken fans alike:

The mighty Iron Maiden will play next year’s edition of the legendary festival in Northern Germany!

After their triumphant show in 2008, this will mark the second show of the british Metal legends at the Wacken:Open:Air. Their gig on Thursday, August 5th, 2010 will also be their only German show next year.

Comments Iron Maiden’s Steve Harris: “We had a fantastic time playing at Wacken last year so when we decided to play a few festivals in Europe next Summer it seemed a great idea to return. What could be better in Germany than to play again to the 75,000 true Metalheads who go to Wacken!“

A groundbreaking Metal band like Iron Maiden on the biggest Metal festival in the world - that’s match made in headbanging heaven. After the first time in 2008, even singer Bruce Dickinson said on his BBC radio show: “Wacken is enormous fun! It’s just great, you wander around and see all the sideshows and bits and bobs and everything else. So it’s just a fabulous weekend!"

Let’s look forward to an impressive Iron Maiden show as part of the “Night To Remember” at the 21st edition of the Wacken:Open:Air, celebrating the band and their immortal set of classics old and new.

SPV files for bankruptcy

German metal label SPV GmbH has submitted on May 25 an application to commence the German equivalent of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. SPV Schallplatten Produktion und Vertrieb GmbH in Hanover, Germany has declared itself insolvent, but managing partner Manfred Schütz maintains that "Normal business will continue even after the application for insolvency."

According to Schütz, together with attorney Manuel Sack, the management of SPV GmbH will not only carry on business operations, but also continue working in the areas of production and distribution in the usual way.

Former IRON MAIDEN/WOLFSBANE frontman Blaze Bayley has cancelled his previously announced appearance at the Cliveaid event on June 30 at the Les Caves Saint Sabin in Paris, France. Replacing him at the concert and meet-and-greet will be former MAIDEN singer Paul Di'Anno, who will sing three songs with French MAIDEN tribute band COVERSLAVE. Also scheduled to appear are the Parisian heavy/thrash metallers DREAMCATCHER, and French illustrator Hervé Monjeaud, who works for IRON MAIDEN. Monjeaud designed the "Somewhere Back In Time - World Tour 08" poster and works for French IRON MAIDEN fanzine Neighbour Of The Beast. Hervé will bring some of his best original artwork and will draw Eddie sketches for those who ask.

"Chemical Wedding" movie (Updated)

A movie based on the life on Alistair Crowley and co-written by Bruce Dickinson is in post-production stage and will be premiered at the 2008 edition of the Cannes Film Festival. The film is directed by ex-Monty Python's Julian Doyle, who co-wrote the script with Dickinson and who directed the video for Iron Maiden 1988 single Can I Play with Madness.
